There’s just not enough time in my schedule to read all of the writings of all the Popes, so I have to be very selective. Below is a list, grouped by Pope and ordered by publication date, of the encyclicals, apostolic constitutions (bulls), and other writings of the Holy Fathers, past and present.

These writings are available from many sources, but here are a few choice ones:

Pius IX

  • Ineffabilis Deus (Apostolic Constitution; December 8, 1854)

Leo XIII

  • Rerum Novarum (Encyclical; May 15, 1891)
  • Satis Cognitum (Encyclical; June 29, 1896)

Pius XII

  • Humani Generis (Encyclical; August 12, 1950)
  • Munificentissimus Deus (Apostolic Constitution; November 1, 1950)

Paul VI

  • Sacrosanctum Concilium (Apostolic Constitution; December 4, 1963)
  • Mysterium Fidei (Encyclical; September 3, 1965)
  • Gaudium Et Spes (Pastoral Constitution; December 7, 1965)
  • Sacerdotalis Caelibatus (Encyclical; June 24, 1967)
  • Humanae Vitae (Encyclical; July 25, 1968)

John Paul II

  • Fidei Depositum (Apostolic Constitution; October 11, 1992)
  • Ordinatio Sacerdotalis (Apostolic Letter; May 22, 1994)
  • Orientale Lumen (Apostolic Letter; May 2, 1995)
  • Ecclesia de Eucharistia (Encyclical; 17 April 2003)

Benedict XVI

  • Summorum Pontificum (Motu Proprio; July 7, 2007)
  • Anglicanorum Coetibus (Apostolic Constitution; November 4, 2009)
